For a very long period the hospitals and clinics run by the Church were the only source of medical aid in the region. There were hospitals at Vellathooval, Rajakkadu, Murickassery and Karimpan owned by the Diocese of Kothamangalm. Due to the socio economic change of the region the small hospitals became uneconomic and many of them were closed. However, there are well established hospitals at Nedumkandom, Murickassery, Sahayagiri, and Adimali. Besides there are two Nursing Schools in the diocese owned and managed by the Church.
